Daniel Maya is unique among classical guitarists for his virtuoso command of various styles of guitar playing, from the elegant romantic sounds of Classical guitar to Broadway, movie and pop songs; from the gentle beat of Brazilian Bossa Nova to the fiery rhythms of Spanish Flamenco. While studying in Spain for several years, Daniel developed his own distinctive sound inspired by the culture and rhythms of his adopted homeland. He is considered one of the top flamenco, Brazilian, classical, and jazz guitarists in Northern California.
Daniel has performed for over 25 years, playing extended engagements at the Clift Hotel, the Sheraton Palace, the Claremont Resort, and throughout Northern California for corporate and private events (including hundreds of weddings). Bay Music & Entertainment had the honor of booking Daniel for the grand opening of San Francisco's hottest restaurant, Michael Mina's at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in 2004. Daniel has also appeared at all the top wineries including Robert Mondavi, Sterling, Joseph Phelps, Beringer, Clos Pegas, Viansa, and Billa Mt. Eden.
Daniel can perform as a jazz guitarist with string bass, saxophone, and a percussionist. His group Tocar has been featured at the San Francisco Jazz festival, San Francisco Performances, and the San Jose Jazz Festival.
A Message from Guitarist Daniel Maya:
If you're a fan of Spanish and Latin-American guitar music, like Paco de Lucia, the Gipsy Kings, Ottmar Leibert, Strunz and Farah, Jesse Cook, and Brazilian artists like Bonfa, Jobim, Veloso and Baden-Powell, I hope you will take a few moments to listen to selections of my music. which a critic recently described as an engaging blend of catchy melodies, Latin rhythms, and daring flights of harmonic fancy. Overall, my music is unified by a single intention, to express and celebrate the exuberant joy of just being alive.
